What is Mixed Spice?

Our mixed spice is a classic blend of the highest quality sweet spices including coriander, cassia, ginger, nutmeg, fennel and cloves and is a store cupboard essential, which is ideal for baking and cooking. This aromatic mix used for centuries compliments many dishes and is sometimes referred to as ‘Pudding Spice’ or ‘English Pudding Spice’ and resembles the American ‘Pumpkin Spice’ blend.

Shelf life of two years provided that goods are stored in an airtight container in ambient conditions.

What is the suggested use for Mixed Spice?

Add to sweet bread, cakes especially rich fruit cakes and tea loves, muffins and dessert recipes such as apple pie, fruit crumble and stewed fruit. Mixed spice can also be used in savoury dishes; it can be used as a substitute for Chinese 5 spice, and complements the flavour of rich game, pork, gammon and poultry. Mixed spice can also be added to fruit based sauces such as apple sauce, chutneys, pickles and preserves, and can be used to make spiced cider, mulled wine and spiced apple cordial. For a tasty change why not make up a batch of popcorn and sprinkle this delicious sweet spice blend on it whilst still warm and drizzle a little golden syrup on top to serve for winter nibbles?
