The sun is out which means it’s time to fire up the grill and enjoy eating alfresco! 🌞 🔥 Here’s some life hacks to make this barbecue season even better…

1. Jazz up your beverages with flower ice cubes 🧊 🌺

  • Fill the ice tray half way with water and place your flower on top. Pour a couple of drops of water on top and place in the freezer overnight. Remove from the freezer, pour another layer of water on top to fill the ice cube tray and place in the freezer overnight.

2. Get the kids to eat more fruit with easy rainbow fruit skewers 🍍 🥭 🍓

  • Blueberries
  • Kiwis cubed
  • Pineapple cubed
  • Mango cubed
  • Melon cubed
  • Oranges cubed
  • Raspberries
  • BBQ Skewers

  • Once you've prepared your fruit this is when the fun begins! Thread the fruit on to the kebabs for a healthy showstopper, perfect for picnics and barbecues.

3. Freeze your favourite fruit and use as a fruity replacement for ice cubes 🍊

In our opinion, lime, orange and lemon slices are the best!


4. Prepare your own marinade on a budget 🌿 🌶️

Making your own marinade means you can cater to everyone’s taste, save money and get creative!

Easy Meat Marinade

  • Place the soy sauce, olive oil, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, garlic granules, basil, parsley and pepper to a blender. Add chilli if using and blend for 30 seconds on a high speed.

  • Use to marinade meat, cover and store in the fridge for 8 hours before cooking!


5. Store your beautiful beverages in a watermelon punch bowl for that extra tropical feeling 🍉

Watermelon Punch

Ingredients

  • 1 Large Watermelon
  • 100ml Lime Juice
  • 60ml Syrup
  • 200ml Vodka
  • 400ml Sparkling Wine
  • Fresh Fruit
  • 30g Fresh Mint

Instructions

  • Cut the top off the watermelon, scoop out the watermelon, remove seeds, and place in a blender with the lime juice, syrup and vodka. Pour into the watermelon bowl.

  • Add ice and top with sparkling wine, fresh fruit and mint leaves.

6. It’s not just meat that goes on the BBQ! 🍌

Grill banana slices and sprinkle with sugar for a fruity snack!


7. Rub half an onion on to the grubby grill for an efficient and chemical-free cleaner 🧅

It also creates quite the tasty seasoning when you grill next!


8. Make your own frozen treats using yogurt and strawberries 🍦 🍓

Strawberry Yogurt Popsicles

  • In a blender, puree 128g of strawberries with 2 teaspoons of strawberry fruit powder and a splash of water.

  • Pour the mixture into the bottom of the popsicle moulds and place in the freezer for 4 hours.

  • Add slices of strawberries down the side and pour in the yogurt. Add a popsicle stick and place in the freezer overnight.
